THE LIMELIGHT
The Limelight was created to give young people the opportunity to experience a touch of the “Limelight”, a stage from where to shine, a place where child can grow and feel comfortable expressing themselves through the combination of music and arts.
The word Limelight Originates from the 1820s, where “Limelight” then known as calcium light was used to light up centre stage making the performer the centre of attention, and that’s exactly what we at The Limelight Project intend to do, to make our young performers the centre of attention!
Bringing an XFactor style supported training ground to bolton all our young performers will be made the centre of attention with support from trained staff all from the music industry background.
WHY IS THE LIMELIGHT PROJECT IMPORTANT TO US AT HARMONY
CELEBRATING 20 YEARS!
Harmony was set up 20 years ago to support disadvantaged young people from the Bolton area through the love of creative arts and by using positive roll models. Our ethos still remains, WHY NOT , WE CAN and WE WILL and WE WONT be discouraged by sex, creed, colour, religion or skill set and that WE ALL HAVE A PLACE!
Harmony uses the basics of music as a tool to engage and energise our service uses and teach them how to express themselves through music, music production, film making, and photography. Harmony has run many a project over the years including the well known Blackout Crew, Harmony’s Anti-Bullying Initiatives and more……
The Limelight Project is Harmony’s way of giving back to the community in what the Community helped build over a twenty year period spanning from 2009 up until now. In so to don this we at Harmony’s bring a 20 year special extravaganza celebrating everything in which Harmony is about and is to continue to be about for many more years to come.
TALENT SHOW
The Limelight Project is opening its doors to boltons young stars and aims to teach everything needed to give your children a touch of the Limelight experience.
Over a period of six weeks The Limelight offers to teach, support and inspire our young people in performing, singing, rapping, working as a team and on an individual basis to build confidence and create a fun atmosphere where child can learn new transferable skills in which he or she can bring through to their home and school lives.
There are no winners of the talent show though there will be personalised certificates given out each with where child has excelled within their time on The Limelight aiming to show that each child has their own unique set of skills and their improvements as an individual along the course.
A full celebration of all our young performers achievements will be held at the end of The Limelight including performances by our young stars along with invites to guardians or carers to make the event a special occasion.
TARGET GROUPS
The limelight offers to work with 9-11 years olds from all skill sets, both male and female but specifically targets those with Emotional Behavioural Difficulties and who struggle with Social Emotional Development. The Limelight brings mentors from all walks of life but with real life skills and experience in the areas of target mentioned. Fully qualified in counselling levels with separate degrees of training and provision for young people The Limelight staff are fully equipped to cope with social and emotional behaviour from our young people and have the tools to help our students grow.
We aim to support all young people no matter what skill sets, race, religion, creed or background and set achievable realistic goals dependant on the individual.

SIX WORKSHOPS
An introduction to LIMELIGHT.
Firstly we will be discussing what THE LIMELIGHT is and how it works by holding an assembly that is both fun and informative with performances and more, we aim to make the assembly exciting and interactive.
WORKSHOP 1: WHAT IS YOUR TALENT?
In this workshop we would like to get to know our young people on a personal level, finding out likes and dislikes, gifts and talents. First an introduction about the course will take place as well as a lesson on class boundaries.
Boundaries?
By allowing our young people to open up a discussion in where they set the rules for the course. The discussion will be prompted by staff. This allows for the pupil to explore their own boundaries as well as others, what is right and wrong in a classroom setting and also gives the pupil a sense of choice, leadership and ownership.
:What is your talent?
We aim to do this by holding a discussion group, starting with introductions by ourselves as team leaders then opening up for each young person to tell us a little about themselves. We aim to make the group discussion fun and interactive with music, performances whilst allowing child to interact and feel free to add input.
Workshop 2: TRUST AND CONFIDENCE
We will now split up into small groups so as we can work more closely on a one to one with our young people, including getting to know them and their skill sets as individuals and also build up confidence within our young people through a series of ice breakers and active group sessions.
Workshop 3: CHOOSE A SONG
We are now at the point where confidence and trust has been built and it is time to choose a song with our young future stars, one that will compliment their own unique style and voice. In this group we will be focusing more on the individual’s talents and gifts with one to one sessions. Practice application sessions as groups will also be used to gain confidence. One to one mentoring will be used to find out our young people’s vocal range and abilities and advice and tuition will be given to enhance child’s performance abilities.
Workshop 4: Practice. Application and execution
As is what it says, Practice, Application and Execution. We will work closely with our young people to practice their song through fully and apply the new skills taught in previous sessions to work towards a full execution of their chosen song.
Workshop 5: DRY RUN! Rehearsals……
All new skills learnt from previous lessons should now be at a stage ready for rehearsals. We will now set up a full dry run of all young performers
Workshop 6: Celebrate!!!
At Harmony we enjoy celebrating all the hard work and effort all of our team leaders, teachers and young people have put in. In this we will have a special performance from (X) and a full break down on what is to come next. That the winners of this years Limelight will be competing against other schools for the chance to become part of a Mega Band! There will also be a party after with music an d food to celebrate.
MUSIC*
The Limelight Project uses music as a tool to engage our future performers from the offset!
