Our visit from JD Foundation!

Some Pictures from Yesterday’s visit from JD Foundation

It was truly a fantastic day, the children had such a good time and went home overjoyed with their goody bags! It was a delight recording with Luci and we are so looking forward to seeing and showing you the final videos.

Massive Thanks to JD foundation for a brilliant day 😊

Mark Logan MP

Mark Logan MP and member of Parliament for Bolton called in for a visit, accompanied by his assistant, Maya Roberts. It was great to see both of them and the children had a great time talking to them both and joining in the fun photo shoot.

A huge thank you to the ‘Vinci UK Foundation’  represented by Michelle Curzon, for their donation. We really appreciate it.

Below is the video of this visit, please give it a watch:

Windrush Day Celebrations

Tuesday 22nd June 2021 is Windrush Day. We at Harmony will be celebrating and educating on the Windrush story.

Many Commonwealth citizens arrived in the UK before British nationality and immigration law made any distinction between British subjects, whether born and living in the UK or elsewhere in the Empire. This began to change in the 1960s, when successive Commonwealth Immigrants Acts introduced immigration restrictions on a growing number of British subjects from outside the UK. Still, many Commonwealth citizens were encouraged to come to fill jobs as bus drivers and nurses and other jobs subject to labour shortages. Decades later, it is clear that those responsible for immigration policy have given no care to these people. Recognition of their circumstances, status and rights has been erased from the guidance issued to Home Office staff.

Amongst making a video, play and dancing, we will be holding an exhibition, including images, art, stories, poems and facts about Windrush, included will be singing, dancing, disco and food. We will also have a street dance team with pop up stall and snacks supplying information on Windrush. We will be advertising details soon.

This project has been funded by the government.

Longsight Women’s Institute

Charlie Barrett receiving the cheque from Kath Hynes.

We were delighted to receive a cheque for £275 raised by selling Cakes, crafts, jewellery and a chocolate Raffle from the Longsight Women’s Institute. Mr Charlie Barrett received the cheque and said a few words in appreciation, the cheque was presented by Mrs Kath Hynes. Charlie said ” It was a pleasure to meet this group of ladies who support the community in so many ways, they are so inspirational with their hands on work, they have a serious agenda but also a great sense of humour and fun”

If you have an interest in Longsight Women’s Institute please take a look at their website http://www.lswi.btck.co.uk/

Harmony’s Ambition for Ageing Project

This was a fantastic project to be involved in, we met so many wonderful people and learned so much from their wisdom.

The interviews were from the  Thicketford Centre. Thicketford Road, Bolton. Fantastic staff and residence, all the people being interviewed suffered from alzheimer’s but that didn’t stop them having a trip down memory lane and a good time chatting.

Please take a look and drop a thumbs up to our channel on youtube, thank you.

WW1 Exhibition open day

We had a fantastic open day with a great turn out, singing, dancing and talks from The Royal Artillery Association, along with our WW1 soldier selfie, film reels and a WW1 audio experience with sounds from the front line, everyone seemed to have a good time with free brews and pasties (big shout out to Hunters the Bakers in Bolton).

People were particularly interested in our photographs and info on local life in Bolton during WW1 which was researched specifically. Rachel Crowe was singing tunes from the era, which the children really enjoyed. The exhibition is open until the 30th November.
